Every summer the turtles nest on the Oak Island beach. Every morning someone tours the beach looking for turtle tracks. The nests are located on GPS, then obscured until they are ready to hatch. 159 nests so far, this year, with an average hatch of 120 per nest. On their due date, a trail is created to the water and and the hatch boil is protected. The odds of each baby turtle reaching maturity and returning to nest are 1 in 20,000, but at least we get them started.
